I'd like to share something on eating right whilst pregnant. I can't stress how important it is for a mother to be responsible with her diet - imagine, what you eat, is what your baby eats. With that in mind, this is what I ate when I was expecting:
1. avoid canned foods - too much preservatives and flavorings
2. avoid spicy food - causes heartburn and can affect baby
3. avoid frozen, cold foods - cos they may be bacteria prone. Also avoid food that is not freshly cooked, like mixed rice and some other hawker foods
4. NO alcohol - I've read that it goes straight into your defenseless baby's bloodstream
5. No coffee - same reason as for alcohol.
6. avoid sugary food - causes excessive weight gain and does nothing for baby
7. take lots of meat - I had tons of beef...it helps build up red blood cells for both mother and baby
8. take lots of fiber - it can only help you improve your bowel movement and it also provides good nutrients to baby
9. take lots of water - what's good for your body is good for baby
I hope that others will benefit from my experience, and also, if anyone has anything to add or any comments, feel free to do so!
