How often should you expect baby to move his bowels?
It can get very worrying especially when baby's not dirtied his diapers for a few days. Some of our moms have also reported their baby's doing it at least 5 times a day!
What's the correct answer?
Having interviewed our moms, these are our conclusions:
1. there's no fixed pattern for newborns, and it can change from week to week
2. after the first month or so, your baby should start developing his own pattern, and will dirty his diapers at about the same time every day, with a fixed number of times
3. the more your baby poops during the first few weeks, the healthier he is - it shows that he's getting enough food/nutrition
4. his poop should be yellowish and pasty if he is formula fed
5. it may be more watery for baby's who are regularly breastfed
6. smelly, very watery stools, especially if it is accompanied with mucus, indicates diarrhoea - he should go to the doctor
