Usefulness: unknown

I hv not tried it because my bb still haven't learn how to chew properly yet. I got this recipe fr a book I bought 2 years ago (Nutritious Food for baby and toddler - Novum's Kitchen). This is for 1 year of age
Ingredients: 1 small cucumber and 2 tbsp of yoghurt
Methods:
1) Rinse and dice cucumber
2) Cook in water and then drain dry
3) Put in a bowl and mix well with yoghurt

Preparing tips: The skin of the cucumber contains heaps of nutrition, thsu unless necessary, try not to peel it.

Nutritional Facts
Cucumber has detoxifying functions. If baby suffers fr skin allergies, try feeding him with some small cucumbers to relieve the symptoms.

PS I got this book fr Kinokuniya, KLCC. Quite cheap, RM18.00

Happy trying. I will try too once my bb is ready.

Hi Evangelinewong and mummies,

Yes, I know about this recipe and I agree that is indeed very tasty but if it is taken always, kids would develope heatiness. I would suggest sometimes, u can use the same ingredients but change the frying method to steaming instead. U would find that this dish is not heaty and dry but tasty and nutritious too!

Happy trying!

Hi June, here I go again as usual while I was in MJ Forum.

My very famous recipe for kids are the ABC soup, ABC chicken or pork stews, claypot/rice cooker pot chicken rice, scramble egg (salty or sweet), steamed egg with meat and veggies, steamed fish or chicken with rice, steamed egg desert (sweet), ABC macaronis (saucy or soup style), spaghetti, burgers, western style food, mashed potato with gravy and many more.

Sometimes, we can just come up with any new recipe of our own by experimenting it ourselves. Be creative and your kids would learn to love home cooked meals and food. Don't restrain them from taking anything but control in the intake amount.

Ive read that you should not give dairy products to a baby under a year old to prevent allergies from developing. Anyone care to comment?

Hi,

*my 2nd girl started to take cheese when she was about 10months old off course with the green light from her pead.I did ask him(pead) again & again you sure can give and he said its alright but in moderate amount, I first started her with half slice only and increase for the following day because she is alright with it. I give her cheese for the first week and stop for another week then start again every alternate day till now.And i do understand some babies might have allergies if take cheese. But so far its ok to my both my girls. i give Chesdale/Kraft cheddar cheese to my girls.
*Managa, i'm not sure if your baby can take cheese or not the best is you might want to check with bb's pead.I trust my girl's pead as i know he is very experience and detail.

pls: vote for my girls http://www.malaysiamums.com/parenting/node/39973 AND http://www.malaysiamums.com/parenting/node/40068
*hehe...many thanks ~WiNk~

Hi, Auntie Anna, I had never given cheese or dairy products to all my babies under a year old, not to prevent allergies but I believe that cheese is not healthy and good for babies. To my understanding, cheese is made from fermanted milk and I don't like the idea of feeding babies under one with it. To me, they have their milk is more than enough. I heard from a collegue of mine that cheese can make a child have sensitive nose i.e. sinus.

To tell u the truth, I sometimes don't understand why some of the mummies are in such a hurry to feed their babies with cheeze? I just normally would stick to my babies normal meals of porridge or rice and their formula milk with in betweens of snacks like bread, biscuits and apples. Sometimes, I do let them have some taste of other food but just a bit for fun and taste, that's all.

I hope that what I have commented do not make anyone hurt as I just want to share my experience and thoughts.

Hi June
The recipe that I had required the macaroni to be cooked in the milk until soft. So I guess I couldn't use the formula milk otherwise the nutrients will be lost. Maybe your preparation method is different. Nvm, I will wait for a bb to be a little older bfr I use those low fat milk fr the stores for that recipe.

Hi June,

Yes, bread is a dairy product, sorry, I quoted wrongly. I do feed my babies with bread, normally just plain bread but not cheese, especially those real/pure cheese. Bread does not contain cheese but milk and egg.

Submitted by Jjbang on November 1, 2006 - 9:33pm

Usefulness: unknown

Ingredients:
100g Fresh Beef
100g Rice
70g Peanuts (shelled)
Method:
1)Rinse all ingredients. Slice the beef thinly or grind finely. Set aside.
2)Boil 5 bowls of water over high heat. Add rice and peanuts. Boil for 30 minutes over high heat. Then turn to low heat to boil for more 40 minutes.
3)Put in the beef slices (or ground beef) and boil for 5 minutes. Season with salt. Serve.
Benefits:
Beef is sweet in taste and warm in nature. It is nutritious and its protein content is twice as much as that of pork and its protein variety is highly comprehensive. Beef benefits the internal organs, the Qi (vital energy), the Spleen and the Stomach. It also strengthens tendons and bones. This recipe works great for those kids with poor blood and Qi circulation, Asthenia and fatique.

* This recipe sounds delicious. Will try it soon.

Comment #4187: Mashed Potato & Carrot With Broccoli & Cheese

Submitted by Jjbang on November 4, 2006 - 9:35pm
In response to the main content
Usefulness: unknown

This recipe sounds YUMMY. Not only suitable for bb above 10months but adult too. Sounds nice for side dishes with Grilled item.
* Please note that not all babies can take cheese. U can always try in a small amount of cheese see any allegy.

*Mashing rather than pureeing your baby’s food is a good way to gradually introduce more texture. Combining broccoli with creamy mashed potato and cheese is a great way to encourage babies to eat more greens. The relatively strong flavour of the broccoli is toned down by the creamy mashed potato. Broccoli is a true superfood, it is a great source of vitamin C and also contains betacarotene, folic acid, iron and potassium.

*Ingredients
300g potatoes, peeled and chopped
1 medium carrot (approx 125g), peeled and sliced
75g broccoli florets
4 tbsp your baby’s usual milk
15g unsalted butter
40g Cheddar cheese, grated

*Method:
Put the potatoes and carrot into a saucepan, cover with boiling water and cook until tender (about 20 minutes). Meanwhile, steam the broccoli for about 7 minutes until tender. Alternatively add to the potatoes and carrot after about 12 minutes. Drain the potato and carrot and mash together with the broccoli, milk, butter and cheese.

Information:
MAKES 4 PORTIONS

**Tips: Vitamin C is water soluble so it is best to steam broccoli as boiling almost halves its vitamin C content. Boiled broccoli retains only about 35% vitamin C as opposed to 72% when it is steamed or microwaved.
