Why Should I Breastfeed?

Breastfeeding has often been said to be better for your baby, than giving her infant formula.

There are many advantages in breastfeeding such as:

1. it relieves engorgement in the breasts

...it's an experience that a new mom really should not miss2. breast milk contains over 200 nutrients - the same cannot be said for infant formula

3. breast milk contains antibodies that help your baby build up his immune system

4. breast milk is more easily digestible

5. breastfeeding helps build a bond between mother and child

6. mother's milk has exactly the right level of nutrition required for baby, as baby develops over the first few weeks. The nutrient constitution changes over time to adjust to baby's needs

I'm not going to play down how demanding and time consuming breastfeeding can be on the mother. However, having spoken to many moms who've breastfed, my only conclusion is that it's an experience that a new mom really should not miss.
